Reclaim the Streets: San Francisco
report from rts@gn.apc.org
Saturday, December 16th

On Saturday, December 16th, over 200 partiers attended a holiday surprise party thrown by SF Bay Area Reclaim the Streets.

Held on Berkeley's Fourth Street shopping strip, the first annual party caught the Berkeley police by complete surprise, giving us plenty of time to set up our barricades, sound system, and portable living room .

The police showed up after the party was in full efeect, and bewildered by our presence, allowed the party to continue without any harassment.

Party activities included street bowling, a smash the state pinata, jump rope, tennis, and dancing. Food Not Boombs caterers wandered through the crowd with silver trays of spiced apples. A case of beer appeared out of nowhere, as did several other intoxicating substances.

A good time was had by all. After holding the street for three hours, the party crested with a fire spinning and fireworks show, then disappeared into the night.

After putting on three wildly successful party/actions in the last three months, RTS will be taking a short break for the rainy season, but will be continually organizing and expanding the group.
